Based on the experiences gained from Cyclone Yasi, several proposals have been put forward to deal with future tropical cyclones. These include cyclone-proofing parts of the hospital to maintain care in key facilities. Establishing a secondary medical centre inland tailored to provide effective medical care in the event of a storm is a critical part of this planning.
